Mrs. Anne Armstrong prepares to christen USS LOS ANGELES (SSN-688)

Mrs. Anne Armstrong
Mrs. Anne Armstrong, Counsellor to the President was chosen as the sponsor of SSN-688. As the sponsor, Mrs. Armstrong was asked to christen the ship using the traditional bottle of Champagne. She had just a little difficulty with that task.

Anne Armstrong attempting to break bottle
Mrs. Armstrong tried over a dozen swings in an attempt to break the bottle and splash champagne on the bow of LOS ANGELES. It took a second, a spare, bottle to do the trick.

"The second bottle was to christen the USS LOS ANGELES: the first bottle was to show that the ship and her crew are staunch and strong and unyielding."
