Commander Thomas Garie Rubenstein

    Commander Thomas G. Rubenstein, a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry at the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation with the class of 1978, he received nuclear training at Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida followed by nuclear propulsion plant training in New York.

    After completing the Submarine Officer Basic Course, Commander Rubenstein was assigned to USS SUNFISH (SSN 649). Aboard SUNFISH, Commander Rubenstein served as Main Propulsion Assistant, Damage Control Assistant, and Weapons Officer.

    Commander Rubenstein was assigned to the Intelligence Collection Branch of the U. S. Atlantic Command from May 1983 to August 1985. During this period he was assigned temporary duty as an Intelligence Officer onboard HMS NEWCASTLE for Northern Atlantic deployment.

    Following completion of Submarine Officer Advanced Course, he reported to USS RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN 687) where he served as Navigator and Operations Officer until July 1989. Commander Rubenstein then served at the United States Naval Academy as Third Company Officer from August 1989 until July 1991.

    In October 1991, Commander Rubenstein reported for duty as Executive Officer, USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) (BLUE) where he served until May 1993. Commander Rubenstein served in the Office of Naval Intelligence with additional duties to the Chief of Naval Operations from May 1993 until June 1995.

    Commander Rubenstein is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal with three Gold Stars, the Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star, Navy Unit Citation with three Bronze Stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation with Bronze Star, Navy "E" Ribbon (Fifth Award), Navy Expeditionary Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He earned a master of science degree in accounting from Strayer College in June 1995.

    He is married to the former Tricia Spratt of Fredericksburg, Virginia. They have a son, Thomas.
